How to choose the default audio output device for a specific app in Windows 11
Did you know you can choose the default audio output device for each individual app in Windows 11?
For example, I prefer having my Windows notification sounds and other system sounds come through my computer's speakers.
However, I prefer listening to the audio when I'm watching YouTube videos in Chrome through my Bluetooth headphones.
Luckily, Windows 11 makes it very easy to choose your preferred default audio output device for each of the apps you use.
Here's how to set the default audio output device for each individual app:
1 - Open the app you want to set the default audio output device for and start playing some type of audio with that app.
As an example, since I prefer playing YouTube videos in Chrome, I would open Chrome and start playing a YouTube video.
2 - With the sound playing in the app, right-click the Start button and then click Settings.
3 - In the left-hand pane, click System.
4 - In the right-hand pane, click Sound.
5 - Scroll down to the "Advanced" section and click Volume mixer.
6 - In the "Apps" section, click on the app you want to set the default audio output device for.
7 - Select the output device you want to use with the selected app from the drop-down box.
8 - (Optional) If you want to select the default audio output device for another app, close the app that's playing audio and repeat the steps above, beginning with step 1.
That's all there is to it. From now on your app(s) should play audio through the audio output device(s) you selected in step 7 by default.
