Today's Quick Tip....
Most long-time Windows users are familiar with the Defrag utility that optimizes the PC's hard drive and puts all the various pieces of fragmented files back together again.
Well, I have good news for you...
If your PC is running Windows 10 you really don't need to manually 'defrag' your hard drive because the operating system does a pretty good job at cleaning things up without your help.
You can still run the Defrag utility any time you want to though, and it can help a very tiny amount.
Just be aware that you should never, ever defrag a solid state drive (SSD).
Why? Two reasons:
1 - SSDs don't need to be defragged in the first place because fragmented files on SSDs don't cause problems like they do with spinning hard drives.
2 - Excessive 'writes' to flash memory cells can cause an SSD to fail prematurely.
Bottom line: If your computer has an SSD instead of a hard drive you really need to leave the Defrag utility alone.
