Today's Quick Tip....
How to password-protect a folder on your Mac
Do you have a folder on your Mac that contains sensitive information that you'd really prefer that others not have access to?
As luck would have it, you can easily protect any folder on your Mac's hard drive or SSD by assigning a password to it. Just follow these steps:
1 - (Optional, but strongly recommended) - Copy the folder you want to password-protect onto a USB flash drive or external hard drive and store it in a safe place just in case something goes wrong.
2 - Open the Applications folder by pressing the Command+Shift+A key combination.
3 - Open the Utilities folder.
4 - Open the Disk Utility.
5 - Click File.
6 - Click New Image > Image from Folder.
7 - Select the folder you wish to protect with a password and then click Open.
8 - Select read/write on the "Image Format" option menu.
9 - Select 128-bit AES encryption on the "Encryption" menu.
10 - Choose a password for this folder and enter it into the two Password fields, then click Choose.
11 - Give the locked disk image a name and then click Save.
12 - Click Done.
13 - Delete the original (non-password protected) folder.
You should now have an encrypted, password-protected folder containing all of the sensitive files that were contained in the original folder.
What's more, if you made a copy as recommended in step one you also have a backup of those files safely tucked away in a fireproof lock box or some other secure location.
