Today's Quick Tip....
How to use another device to find a lost/stolen Android phone
You probably know you can install an app called 'Find My Device' on your Android phone that will help you locate it if it ever gets lost or stolen.
You can also use the app to sign the lost/stolen phone out of your Google account and lock it.
And if things look really dire you can even remotely 'wipe' the phone to erase all of your personal information and photos from it.
But what if your phone gets lost or stolen before you get around to installing the app?
Well, there's a very simple solution that will allow you to do all of those things using a web browser on any other device that might be available to you.
That's right, if the lost/stolen phone is connected to a Google account you can use another device to locate the lost/stolen phone, sign it out of Google and lock it or even 'wipe it' even if the 'Find My Device' app isn't installed on it. Here's how:
1 - Open a web browser on the device you're using and visit the Google website.
2 - Type the words find my device into the Google search box and press the Enter key. You will then be directed to the "Find My Device" page on the Google website.
3 - Select the phone in question from the list of devices that are connected to this Google account and Google will attempt to track down the device's location.
You will also be given the option of either logging the lost/stolen phone out of Google and locking the phone or going nuclear and simply wiping it clean.
Caveat #1: In order for this to work several conditions must be met. This Google Support page explains what those conditions are.
Caveat #2: You will be required to log into your Google account in order for this tool to work for you.
