Today's Quick Tip....
How to get the most accurate Internet speed test results
Have you ever ran a speed test on your Internet connection to see if you're getting the download and upload speeds you're paying for?
If not, you really should.
And when you do, make sure you take steps to ensure that you get the most accurate test results possible.
The way to do that is to make sure the only device that's connected to the Internet while the test is running is the device you're using to run the test.
Either disconnect the other devices from the Internet, place them in Airplane Mode, or simply turn them off.
And at all possible, connect the testing device directly to the router or gateway with an Ethernet cable.
(You guess it - it's best to use a laptop or desktop computer if you have one available.)
If you run several tests following the above guidelines and all of the tests indicate that the speeds you're getting are a lot slower than the speeds you're paying for, I recommend that you contact your ISP and ask them to find out why.
While it's fairly common for actual Internet speeds to be a little lower than advertised speeds, they should at least be in the ball park. If yours aren't that means there's an issue that your ISP needs to address.
